Public Policy Common Sense

The PURPOSE of this blog is to bring forward information on public policy issues that focus on the moral side of the debate.  Moral debate fosters ethical discussion in a civil, intellectually serious, individually responsible way by seeking the true facts.

Subject: THE TAIL comes to washington

   Associated Press,  March 25, 2010

This blog represents a number of commentaries,  by a variety of authors,  on the announcement of a recent decision by the Zionist leaders in Israel to build first, 1600 new Jewish homes (3/9/10) in the disputed occupied territory of East Jerusalem;  and then an additional 20 homes in the heart of an Arab neighborhood (3/25/10).

The title of this blog is mine but the content is taken from an Associated Press article titled:  Israeli Leaders Moment of Truth Appears Close,  as well as other articles written over the last 2 week period.

The Tail reference in the title is to the Zionist, neocon leadership in Israel lead by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,  and The Dog is the Congress of the United States lead by the Democrats and liberal Republicans.

COMMENTS :
You would think,  after the recent statement by U.S. Central Command, General David Petraeus,  in which he said that the lack of progress toward solving the Israeli - Palestinian conflict  (1) imperils U.S. troops in the area,  (2) impedes other U.S. goals around the world,  and (3) fuels extremism;  that the Congress and the Executive Branch would take immediate action to demand Israel stop these violations and sit down  at the negociation table......concidering American lives hang in the balance!   It was extremism, after all, that brought down the Trade Towers, blew up the Marine barracks in Beirut, and took the lives of sailors on the USS Cole.

The Associated Press article tells us that, on his visit to Capitol Hill, "...U.S. lawmakers lavished effusive praise on Netanyahu..."

Unless the Obama Administration moves aggressively the world will rightfully see that the U.S. Government is nothing more than a pawn of Zionist Israel.

Here's what that would mean in real terms:

1)  No peace in the Middle East but rather escalating violence once the Palestinians see there is no hope.

2)  The depletion of Americas military strength thru its involvement in no-win wars like Iraq,  and other regional conflicts.

3)  The capture, already a fact, of America's foreign policy by the neocon pre-emptive war crowd, who preach perpetual peace thru perpetual war.

4)  The increased resentment and hatred for America because of this war mongering disposition.

5)  And finally, the economic collapse of the U.S. due to it's "guns and butter" policy of policing the world.

Subject: IT'S THE CULTURE STUPID !

by Matt Apuzzo,  Associated Press,  March 19, 2010

The title of the article by Matt Apuzzo, which is the basis for this blog, is :  Federal  Auditors  Rewarded,  Too.

The "federal auditors" in question were the same ones on duty and watching over Wall St. as the country approached the greatest fraud ever perpetrated on the American people.  The article tells us, "...regulators got taxpayer-funded bonuses ( $19  million ) for doing 'superior' work monitoring the banks."

I quote again,  "...the U.S. Government handed out millions of dollars in bonuses to regulators at agencies that missed or ignored warning signs that the system was on the verge  of a meltdown."

COMMENTS:
Probably just a coincidence that it was reported yesterday (3/18/10) that a government job pays 25% better in salary and 39% in benefits than a comparible job in the private sector.

Then in today's press ( Pioneer Press 3/19/10 ) I see that our Governor Pawlenty has on his staff,  "an advisor on faith and community services",  commanding a salary of $92,000 a year (fill-in what you think the benefit package includes).  I'm sure I'de find this job enumerated in the Minnesota Constitution if I looked.  And no reason for me to suspect that this job and possibly others in the State Executive Branch might be furloughed until we are out of the depression !

Contrast that with what goes on where you and I live.

  >We can't print money to paper over serious failures in judgement.

  > We can't pay out bonuses to our staff with revenues that don't exist.

  >We can't tax our neighbors to make up for stupid mistakes that should have cost us our jobs!

  > When revenues disappear, jobs are cut, salaries reduced !

The example was set early on by responsible people like Fed Ex CEO Rick Smith, when at the beginning of the downturn he announced he was cutting his salary by 20%, and requesting his senior staff to follow suit with voluntary cuts of 10 - 12%.

So what does all of this have to do with the article mentioned above.  Simply to show how dis-connected life in government is from the real world, and how our leaders don't even see the need to suggest they should share in the suffering the rest of us are going thru.

What industry has shown the greatest growth since the depression started...government !   Where are they finding the money...their printing debt money !   Are these new government hires beholden the the politicians...you bet !    It's one of the ways incumbants buy re-election !

So what have we heard from Congress?  From the President and his Executive Branch?   Our State Legislature?

Subject: INSULTED by ISRAEL ... AGAIN!

from  Associated Press,  March 12, 2010

Jerusalem - U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and America's Middle East Special Envoy George Mitchell arrived in Israel to activate stalled peace talks by acting as mediator to establish the two state solution between Israel and the Palestinians.

With seemingly no consideration for the United States, the peace process, Mr. Biden and Mr. Mitchell,  Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Interior Ministry today announced, in violation of all agreements to date,  that it unilaterally decided it would build 1600 new homes in occupied, mostly Arab East Jerusalem.

An Israeli newspaper called it  The Slap Heard 'Round The World."

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called Israels behavior "insulting."

Vice President Biden and the Palestinians sharply condemned Israel, and as of today (3/15/10), the Palestinians have pulled out of the talks until Israel scraps the plans.

COMMENTS :

Until you understand Zionism and how Zionists play into the Israeli picture,  you will never find a solution to this on going crisis.

Zionism is  a political movement,  not a religious movement.  Religious Jews are used as pawns.

Zionism, its leaders, covet power and wealth and only pretend to the world that they are interested in the religious welfare of the average Israeli  Jew.

Discussions they DON'T want to have include :  How Palestinians and Jews lived side by side in peace prior to 1948;  how the Zionist led invasion of Palestine forcefully conficated privately owned Palestinian lands at the barrel of a gun; and how - to this day - proper restitution has never been suggested or given.  There is little or no discussion of how the $6 billion in annual U.S. aid is used and why such a prosperous Israeli economy even needs those U.S. taxpayer dollars!

Stop for a minute and consider, that we in the this country, believe and embrace the statement in our Declaration of Independence that  "...all men are created equal...and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights...that among those are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness ...and that governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed."  This, and the Rule of Law, are universally accepted.  Where is this reality suggested in the actions,  present and past,  of the Zionists who have always controlled Israel ?

Thomas Friedman, writer, N.Y. Times editorialist and Jewish, had it exactly right when he wrote last Saturday in the Times, that  "the Vice President missed a chance to send a powerful public signal:  He should have snapped his notebook shut, gotten right back to Air Force Two, flown home and left the following scribbled note behind:  'Message from America to the Israeli government:  Friends don't let friends drive drunk.  Right now, you're driving drunk.  You think you can embarrass your only true ally in the world, to satisfy some domestic  political need,  with no consequences?  You have lost total contact with reality.  Call us when your serious.  We need to focus on building our (own) country."

To accentuate the point of how arrogant and out of touch the Zionist leadership is (and that assumes they even care),  I have only to quote Abraham Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League, from a Reuters article on 3/13/10, where he said,  "We are shocked and stunned at the (Obama) administrations tone and public dressing down of Israel." !

So, in conclusion, here would be my suggestions to bring about a lasting peace in the region.   This is something Special Envoy George Mitchell needs to do:

1) Except for humanitarian aid, he needs to recommend that Congress stop ALL U.S. aid to both Israel and the Palestinians until a resolution is signed, in place, and respected by both sides.

2) He needs to put a copy of the U.S. Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution on the table, and strongly propose they take them back to their respective citizenry with the suggestion they adapt this system as their new form of government.

3) And, finally, insist that  proper compensation and resolutions for confiscated private property and lost of life be given by Israel to the Palestinians, and that  pre-1967  borders be respected.

Subject: Does It Ever End. Do They Take Us For Stupid?

from article by Streitfeld & Story, N.Y.T., 10/9/09

In their article titled, U.S. Mortgage Backer May Need Bailout,  David Streitfeld and Louise Story tell us:

"A year after Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac teetered,  industry executives and Washington policy makers are worrying that another government mortgage giant could be the next housing domino."

"Problems at the Federal Housing Administration (F.H.A.)which guarantees mortgages with low downpayments,  are becoming so acute that some experts warn the agency might need a federal bailout."

In a hearing on Capitol Hill last Thursday,  the FHA Commissioner David H. Stevens,  "acknowledeged that some 20% of F.H.A. loans insured last year - and as many as 24% of those from 2007 - face serious problems including foreclosure ..."

Still,  no problem he says,  (and here's the catch-all, cover your political ass phrase)  "...absent any catastrophic home price decline...we will not need a bailout."

Critics say, "...the F.H.A. looks like another Fannie Mae."

To date,  one year after the federal government stepped in to bailout Fannie and Freddie,  these two companies have taken $96 Billion from the Treasury.

COMMENTS:
To their credit, the article reports,  "...the Republicans, who lead efforts to rein in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac before the companies ran into trouble,  are now seeking to bridle the F.H.A.  Many Democrats (just like before) insist the F.H.A. is playing a vital role in the housing market..."

Further, we are told, "Since the bottom fell out of the mortgage market, the F.H.A. has assumed a critical role in the nation's housing market...the agency now insures roughly 5.4 million single-family home mortgages, with a combined value of $675 Billion."

"In addition," and here's the good part, "these loans are bundled  into mortgage backed securities and guaranteed throught the Government National Mortgage Association,  known as Ginnie Mae.  That means the taxpayer is responsible for paying investors who own Ginnie Mae bonds when F.H.A.-backed mortgages hit trouble."

Ginnie Mae is the government version of  A.I.G., the private insurance company who's into we the taxpayers for over $100 billion, and we don't even know what A.I.G.'s total liabilities are!  Nor has Congress asked.

So with things going from catastropic to laughable, who do the authors of the article quote on the Democrat side as supporting the present role of the F.H.A?

Congress persons Barney Frank and Maxine Waters, presently two of the loudest voices, who along with Senators Schummer and Dodd in the '90's said,  hands-off Freddie and Fannie ( the F.H.A.type agencies under fire at the time)... their doing the job we want done!
